Greensboro- “Gate City Young Singers” Auditions Next Week

Gate City Young Singers Auditions for 2013-2014 at Trinity Church (enter around back), 5200 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27406 on Wednesday May 1, 1:00-3:00pm for students 8-18 years old (girls and boys/unchanged voices). Gate City Young Singers will audition for 2013/2014 Singing Season. Be prepared to sing one verse of My Country ’tis of Thee.

Auditions are for voice placement only. A $25 Registration fee is due at auditions.

Rehearsals are once a week.

Performances will be at Christmas and May Day as well as civic and social events and possibly a summer tour.

New High Point Home Educators’ Sports Team

High Point Home Educators will field a cross-country team for the first time this fall. Practices have begun.

Currently they are meeting three times a week. “Meets” will be in September and October and are five Kilometers in length (3.1 miles).

Year End Testing~ Triangle Assessments, Inc.

Triangle Assessments in Raleigh provides a number of tests and services that home educators might find useful, including a variety of tests that met the requirements of annual testing under NC laws. They also provide one-on-one testing and career/ interest inventories which might be of interest to parents who have homeschoolers in high school.

Homeschool Field Day at the Stokes Family YMCA

The YMCA is such an incredible resource for home educators. In our area, they provide numerous activities and PE classes during the day and have been very supportive of homeschoolers. If you are looking for sports or P.E. classes for your homeschool or your support group, I highly recommend speaking with your local “Y”!

HOMESCHOOL FIELD DAY AT THE STOKES FAMILY YMCA

Coming in May…Fun, Friends and Games Galore!

Join us for a day of games, competition and fun at field day! We will have traditional relay games and water games. The day will begin at 9am with a devotion and prayer and games will kickoff by 9:15am. We will wrap up with games around 12:30-1pm and enjoy a picnic lunch together. Then, if you want you can stay after lunch for an afternoon of cooling off in the pool.

Field day is FREE for homeschoolers and their families. However, swimming is $3 per person for a potential member and free for members.

You can register online at www.ymcanwnc.org/register or stop by the Stokes Family YMCA to complete forms. If you have problems online, please give us a call and we will be glad to walk you through registration.

The Friends of the Greensboro Public Library is holding their Semi-Annual Used Book Sale Thursday, April 25 through Sunday, April 28 at Central Library.

Thursday’ s sale is a preview/reception from 5:30 pm to 8 pm for members only. You may renew your membership or become a first time member at the door.

You can find bestsellers in fiction and non-fiction along with a variety of popular children and youth books, cook-books, coffee table books, art, history, and science books, cd’s, dvds, puzzles, and much more. There

is a real possibility you can find that “rare” book that you have been looking for or some other treasure.

Proceeds from the sale go to the Friends of the Greensboro Public Library, a diverse nonprofit organization whose purpose is to support the community’s cultural and literary needs. The Friends of the Library help support the mission of the Greensboro Public Library.

While at the sale, we invite you to drop in our Booklovers Shop at Central Library. The shop sells new and used books, a great cup of coffee, beverages and snacks.

Cornerstone Enrichment will be holding an Open House for new students and prospective families to meet our tutors and see the facility where we meet.
