Movie Extras are needed for the Inspirational Film “Find A Way”.

This movie is filming in Burlington near Elon University and we need lots of extras!

Saturday, Feb. 18th – Riverside Baptist Church

11am to 2pm – Worship Service & Funeral Scenes “extras” [ *Need approx.

300 extras - students & adults; need to appear to have 2 outfits (one

appropriate for Worship Service, one for funeral; this can be as simple

as putting on a black suit jacket for funeral & taking it off for other

scene); all appropriate cast should be present for respective scene,

even is they're not specifically mentioned in stage direction ]

 

Sunday, Feb. 19th – Elon Campus AM – “Assembly” in Whitley Auditorium [

*Need to fill the auditorium with "students" dressed appropriately ]

“Locker Room after the game” – Field-house Locker Room [ *Need approx

10-15 extras - portraying football players after the game ]

Night Shot – “Outside of Locker Room after the game” [ exact location

not yet determined; should be close to field-house locker rooms; will be

reserved & scouted the beginning of this week; *Need approx 20 (student

& adult) extras, as well as appropriate cast ] ** IF YOU WERE IN THE

DINER SCENES AT ALL, YOU NEED TO WEAR YOUR DINER SCENE WARDROBE IN THIS

SCENE AS WELL

 

Friday, Feb. 24th – Rhodes Stadium, visitors seating (Elon Campus)

5pm – Football game / OPENING SCENE OF THE MOVIE (HUGE SCENE; REALLY BIG

DEAL)! *Need 300+ extras to fill the sidelines & stands; need 2 teams

worth of football players; would like to have a cheer leading squad on

the sidelines, if possible; need 2-3 referees in uniform; of course,

appropriate cast present ** IF YOU WERE IN THE DINER SCENES AT ALL, YOU

NEED TO WEAR YOUR DINER SCENE WARDROBE IN THIS SCENE AS WELL (unless

your actually a football player, of course)

Heroines of the Past

This is a FREE three-week online Bible study class starting on January 30th:

The Heroines of the Past 3 Week Bible Study Class will be delivered directly into your inbox five days a week, Monday through Friday. This three-week class is both a Bible study and a collection of stories about historical women and girls. Each day has a story about a righteous lady from the past, and then a virtue study that digs into God’s Word concerning the character quality demonstrated in the story. In this class, you will meet brave girls like Princess Edith, who boldly helped her family during the Middle Ages, girls like Blandina, who valiantly held onto her faith in the face of persecution, and servant-minded women like Mary Slessor, who worked for Christ as a missionary in Africa. This three-week study features five daily lessons that could be used as a home study for girls and their mothers or as an individual study.

To young Lemuel, who has escaped slavery in Georgia, life in Gettysburg is everything he had dreamed it would be. His ideas about the North and the South, as well as what it means to be a free man, are challenged, when he unexpectedly befriends Jacob, a young Confederate soldier. The two men may be on different sides of the Civil War, but they have much to teach each other about bravery and loyalty in this exciting and suspenseful musical.

The Davie County Master Gardeners Volunteers have established a scholarship for Graduating Seniors who live in Davie County, North Carolina and who are going into a horticulture program.

I just received this information from Gloria (thank you!)

“Our Master Gardener Volunteer Association provides a scholarship for horticulture majors. The applicants are graduating (2012) seniors who live in Davie County.

Currently, applications are available at the guidance office of DCHS and Early College.”

Homeschoolers are eligible for this scholarship if they are majoring in Horticulture.

Many thanks to our Master Gardeners for all they do and for this practical support of young people in our community!

I spoke recently with Mr. Barry Geller who is a Sign-Language teacher. He is currently teaching some Sign Language Classes that include Homeschoolers and he wanted to extend the invitation to join his classes to the entire Homeschool Community in the Piedmont Area!

According to Mr. Geller, some of the goals of his class will be for the students to:

1)  Feel comfortable with and enjoy Sign Language

2) Become familiar with Deaf Culture, History, Perspective

3) Be able to converse in Sign Language

4) Learn 100 or more signs

His class is appropriate for most ages and teaches both signs and finger spelling. He includes games and songs so that even the youngest students can learn the beautiful simplicity of Sign Language.

There will be events throughout the day–choose the sessions that fit your schedule. Get all three one-hour performances of Stories from America’s Past (11:30 AM, 2 PM, and 7 PM) There will be different stories at each performance. The cost is only $5 per person or $20 per family if pre-registered by January 13!!!

Jim Weiss is a well-known and popular speaker who is best known for being a gripping storyteller.

Children under 3 are free!

Mr. Weiss will be conducting two 90-minute workshops for students to learn the art of storytelling, for an additional $5 per  participant.

The 9:30 AM workshop for elementary students, only has 13 slots left.

The 3:30 workshop for middle and high school students, would be ideal for those interested in theatre arts!

There will be a large room set up for quiet games during the workshops and for lunch if you choose to Brown-Bag your meal.

This is an introduction to the Teaching Writing: Structure & Style methodology, which focuses on the ability of the key word outline to address organization, reasoning, content, and collaboration as well as its ability to fill learning gaps. How guided practice, scaffolding, differentiation, and formative assessment play important roles in engaging the students in their own growth is taught. This
presents four different composition models and three stylistic techniques. Participants will have “hands‐on” writing practice using a checklist‐based approach, which allows students to gradually expand and continuously reinforce a repertoire of specific skills. The structure and style system directly supports writing across the curriculum and the 6 + 1 Traits Assessment model.
