About “North Carolina Homeschool-ology”!

The purpose of this blog is to connect home educators with each other, and with resources in our state. I want to help you find support, encouragement, curriculum and ideas that will help you to teach your children at home. I try to highlight North Carolina vendors and providers, as well.

About Me:

I am the organizer of the NC Homeschool “ology” blog- Merit K. I have been blogging about home education in North Carolina since February of 2008, when I was still fairly new to NC myself!

I am a former teacher and have been homeschooling 14 years.  My daughter (our oldest)  is a sophomore in college. Our home education program was inspired by Charlotte Mason and is literature based and project oriented. We started out using Unit Studies/Thematic Units with narration and a lot of nature study, hands-on activities and exploration. Currently, I homeschool my sons who are both high schoolers.

I am the editor of  The Homeschool Journal which is a publication for home educators in the Piedmont/Triad area and owner of the Piedmont Homeschoolers Yahoo Group. I also serve as President of our “Friends of the Library” board, adult advisor for the Piedmont Future Filmmakers Club,  and lead our Homeschool 4-H Club. I am a free lance writer and an independent reviewer for home, family and educational products. I would love for you to visit my personal blog at “Mission Possible” .

Periodically, I host a New Homeschooler’s program to help answer questions for those who are thinking of Homeschooling and for those who are new to home education.
